Word for the week: Oswego
Shout out to the tough northern crew. It's nice when the old WNY area makes big news, if only to hear the familiar town names tossed out at national audiences. Everyday this week.
Last it was prison escapees on the loose. Now, it's snow. 100 inches of snow. The midwestern fam can't scoff at that, eh? I hope LV, Rochester, Olean, and the rest coped well with their share of the recent storms. Ozzzzzzzz-weeee-goh.
DC has suffered no more than 10 inches total this season. 10 inches more than necessary, but certainly a nice low number. The mild winter has allowed outdoor weekend workouts, frisky refreshers from the sedentary week. ~34F and clear today.
Spied a seriously hardy, no frills, fella on my ride. I've seen "Pinky" 3 weeks in a row. Knit hat, sweat shirt, gym shorts, socks and sneakers. That's it. Bare pink legs, matching fingers, and rosey cheeks. I was pedalling North, toasty warm under nearly every bit of cold weather riding gear I've accumulated over the years. He was grinding South down Beach Drive on his mountain bike, gym shorts flappin'.
Props were due. I was moved. Pointing at him across the street as we passed, "You are TOUGH! Go Pinky!" Okay, that Pinky bit was uttered to myself. In my mind this guy is either crazy, ex-mil or some such. No need to piss him off. I'm pretty sure the "tough" comment made him smile.
Anyway, winter fitness is aimed at these near range targets:
March 4 - Baltimore & Annapolis Trail Half Mary
March 18 - St. Pat's 8K (5mi), DC
April 1 - Cherry Blossom 10miler, DC
April 7 - Duathlon in Richmond, VA (5.8mi run - 32mi bike - 5.8mi run)
No races for a bit after that.
Hope everyone is healthy and not snowed in.
